Rhodesia – 1966 – Proof Quality Gold Coin Set – 1 Year of Independence, Includes Box and Certificate of Authenticity

Description

On November 11, 1966, on the first anniversary of Rhodesia’s declaration of independence, the Reserve Bank of Rhodesia released gold coins in denominations of 5 pounds, 1 pound and 10 shillings.

Manufactured by the South African Mint in Pretoria, these coins are characterized by a fineness of 916,666 thousandths and were minted in “Proof” quality. The edges of the coins are fluted.

Obverse depicts a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, looking to the right and wearing a tiara. The inscription reads “Elizabeth the Second”.
