History

The snow leopard lives in the Primorsky region of the Far East. The snow leopard is a large, graceful cat. Externally it resembles the leopard, but differs in its stocky body, longer tail and fur. Its body length together with the head is about 1-1.4 m, the tail length is about 0.9-1.1 m, i.e. the tail makes up more than 3/4 of the body length. The tail is almost as thick as the circumference of the animal’s forearm. The tail helps the predator keep its balance when jumping. The males are larger than the females. The average weight of the male is 45-55 kg, the female weighs on average 25-40 kg. The height of the animal at the withers is about 60 cm.

The snow leopard is threatened with extinction because its food supply is decreasing and it is kept in zoos. It is listed in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
