Cuba – 100 pesos – 1980 – First joint space flight – NGC MS69

We present the first Soviet-Cuban joint commemorative space flight issue, a historic moment in space exploration captured in a beautiful coin. This coin features the Cuban coat of arms on the obverse with the country’s name as a curved legend at the top and the denomination at the bottom. The weight and fineness of the gold coin (12 g, 0.917) are displayed on the sides.

The reverse of the coin depicts the iconic Saliut 6 space station orbiting the Earth, with the date and mint mark below. The names of the countries (URSS and Cuba) are inscribed at the top with a five-pointed star in a circle between them and the commemorative event “First Joint Space Flight” at the bottom. The coin was minted by Empresa Cubana de Acuñaciones in Havana, Cuba.
