Description

Botswana – 1978 – 150 Pula – Brown Hyena – Gold – MS69 – Top Pop – Population 3 – PCGS Cert 51293505

This rare gold coin from Botswana, minted in 1978, depicts the brown hyena and is part of the internationally renowned Conservation Series. The series features selected animal motifs and was specifically minted for collectors, making this issue clearly more than just a bullion coin. Furthermore, the very low mintage combined with the striking wildlife theme makes this coin particularly attractive among modern African collector coins.

The present specimen has been certified by PCGS as MS69. Only three specimens in MS69 are recorded in the PCGS census. This represents Population 3 , meaning the number of pieces registered by PCGS in precisely this condition. At the same time , no specimen in a higher condition is recorded, making this piece a Top Pop , the highest PCGS grade currently known for this issue.

It is precisely this combination of Conservation Series membership, low mintage and very low population at a top grade that makes the coin particularly interesting for quality-oriented collectors.
