NGC – A valuable and significant partnership

One of our valued memberships is the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation), one of the most respected coin grading services in the world. With years of experience and expertise, NGC provides accurate, consistent and unbiased assessments of a coin’s condition, which is important to collectors and investors alike. Our partnership with NGC therefore means we are able to offer our customers the most reliable and trustworthy coin grading services the market has to offer. By working closely with NGC, we ensure that our customers’ needs are always top of mind and that we do our part to maintain the integrity and authenticity of the coin collecting industry.

Who is NGC?

NGC was founded in 1987 in Parsippany, NJ by John Albanese, who also helped develop the Professional Coin Grading Service. Ownership later changed and coin dealer Mark Salzberg acquired a majority stake in the company. Salzberg, who is retiring in June 2023, and CEO Steven Eichenbaum are owners of CDN Greysheet, a price guide for coins comparable to the Kelley Blue Book for cars.

Maintaining Impartiality and Expertise: Insights into NGC’s Coin Grading Process

At NGC , more than 30 full-time coin appraisers, along with external consultants, form the backbone of the grading service. To ensure impartiality and fairness, the NGC prohibits its full-time graders from buying and selling coins commercially. In addition, strict protocols are put in place to prevent advisors from influencing the evaluations of their submissions. This meticulous approach, supported by the combined experience of the NGC graduation team, ensures unmatched accuracy and consistency in the graduation process.

PCGS – Another important and significant partnership

Another key partnership is with PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service), another leading provider of coin grading and authenticity services. PCGS has long set the standard for accuracy and consistency in coin grading, and our collaboration with PCGS allows us to better serve our customers’ needs.

Who is PCGS: Pioneers of standardized coin grading

The Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), launched in 1985, was the result of a collaboration between seven dealers, including then-President David Hall. Their common goal was to establish a standardized grading system for coins. Since then, PCGS has grown into one of the leading third-party coin sorting, authenticating, matching and encapsulating services in the Americas and has also expanded its services into Europe and Asia. PCGS is a subsidiary of Collectors Universe.

PCGS Certifications and Services

PCGS offers comprehensive certification services for a variety of U.S. and international coins. This includes grading, authenticating, attributing and securely encapsulating coins in clear, hermetically sealed plastic containers. Other offerings include special label programs, “First Strike” designations, high-resolution imaging through True View, preservation services, and various levels of certification tailored to the coin’s value and desired processing time. It should be noted that coins showing signs of improper cleaning, alteration, damage, or other deterioration will not receive a numerical grade from PCGS.

ANA, ANS, NCBA and RCNA – Other valuable memberships

We are proud to be a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), a non-profit organization that promotes the study and collection of coins. In addition, the ANA offers a variety of resources and educational materials for coin collectors that we use to best help our customers.

We are also members of the American Numismatic Society (ANS), which promotes the study of coins and medals and provides a number of programs and publications for numismatics enthusiasts.

We are also part of the National Coin and Bullion Association (NCBA), another important association that works to protect the rights of collectors and dealers in the coin industry and advocates for fair and transparent business practices.
