Information:
Built under the command of Admiral Stepan Makarov, the Yermak was the world’s first icebreaker capable of breaking through heavy ice. In 1899, it undertook its first voyage to the Arctic, in 1918 it participated in the Baltic Fleet’s winter expedition, in 1938 it was involved in the evacuation of the polar station Severny Polyus-1, and from 1941 to 1945 it guided ships through the ice in the Baltic Sea.
