Information:
Anna Pavlova (1881–1931), a Russian ballet dancer, graduated from the St. Petersburg Theatre School in 1889 and joined the Mariinsky Theatre. Her remarkable talent as a classical dancer flourished in ballets and concert pieces performed by the finest choreographers of the time. Her interpretation of Saint-Saëns’ “The Dying Swan” became legendary. A leading ballerina with the Ballets Russes in Paris, Anna Pavlova later founded her own company, which made a significant contribution to the development of ballet.
