Niger 1968 – 10 Francs Gold Proof with ostriches

This 10 Francs gold coin from 1968 belongs to a four-part proof series from Niger, whose motifs depict the country’s first president and characteristic animals of the African fauna.

The obverse depicts two ostriches in a landscape setting. Above the image is the inscription “REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER”. The ostrich is one of the most distinctive animals of the African savannah and arid regions and is the motif of the smallest gold coin in this series.

The other side shows the coat of arms of the Republic of Niger . Above it is the denomination of 10 francs, below it the year 1968. The inscription bears the national motto “FRATERNITE – TRAVAIL – PROGRES”.

Small gold coin with a mintage of only 1,000

The 10 Francs gold coin weighs 3.20 g and has a fineness of .900 gold . This results in a pure gold weight of 2.88 g or approximately 0.093 oz .

The mintage is limited to only 1,000 . The coin was minted by Valcambi SA in Balerna, Switzerland .

NGC PF69 Ultra Cameo – Top Pop

The item offered here has been certified by NGC with PF69 Ultra Cameo , thus achieving the highest grade currently awarded by NGC for this issue.

Only 5 coins are registered with NGC in PF69 Ultra Cameo. No other coin has been rated higher. This makes it a top pop coin .

The addition of Ultra Cameo refers to the particularly strong contrast between the frosted motifs and the deeply reflective fields of the proof embossing.

The combination of the low mintage, the unusual ostrich motif, the production by Valcambi and especially the Top Pop status makes this 10 Francs Gold Proof a particularly interesting issue for collectors of rare modern African gold coins.
