This is the gold coin “Haile Selassie” from Ethiopia. It has a face value of $100 and dates from 1966. The gold coin “Haile Selassie” embodies the 75th anniversary of the birth and the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Emperor Hailé Selassié I.
On the obverse of the coin is a bust 3/4 left of the emperor, sharing a crown and shield. The inscription on the coin reads: “Haile Selassie”, “75. Birthday” and “50. Year of Leadership”.
The reverse depicts a crowned lion on the right, whose right foreleg is raised. This one holds a ribbon cross. The sides show the value of the coin in Ethiopian and English. The bottom of the gold coin shows the date in two different calendars.
