Zambia – 1979 – 250 Kwacha – African Wild Dog – Gold – Proof – PF69 Ultra Cameo – Top Pop – Conservation Series – NGC Cert 6680223-010

This gold coin from Zambia, minted in 1979, is one of the rarest and most collectibly significant issues of the international Conservation Series . The design depicts the African Wild Dog , one of Africa’s most endangered predator species, making this coin exceptional both numismatically and thematically.

The front shows a portrait facing right with the inscription ZAMBIA and the year 1979 . The minimalist design focuses all attention on the three-dimensional portrait, which is particularly clear in proof quality.

The reverse side shows an African wild dog in a calm side view. Below the motif is the denomination 250 KWACHA . The combination of finely matte reliefs and deeply reflective fields creates a pronounced cameo effect, which is characteristic of the conservation proofs of this era.

This specimen has been certified by NGC with PF69 Ultra Cameo . This grade represents the highest known and awarded grade of preservation for this issue. This makes it a top-pop specimen in the NGC census .

Of particular note is the extremely low proof mintage of only 245 pieces , making this coin one of the rarest proof issues in the entire Conservation Series. The coins were minted at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant (United Kingdom) .

The combination of minimal mintage, highest known grading, iconic animal motif and classic 1970s gold striking places this piece in a prominent top position within any thematic or high-quality gold collection.
