Sierra Leone 1966 – ½ Golde “Fifth Anniversary of Independence” – PCGS PR65 – Top Pop
This rare ½ Gold coin was issued in 1966 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Sierra Leone’s independence and was minted in the finest proof quality by the Royal Mint in London.
The coin’s design features a stylized lion’s head on the reverse, with the inscription “Fifth Anniversary of Independence 1961–1966” . The front side shows a map of Sierra Leone and the denomination ½ Golde , a currency designation that was no longer used and remained historically unique.
The coin was certified by PCGS with PR65 (Proof 65) – an excellent grade of preservation. This specimen is currently the only known piece of this quality – and there is no better-rated specimen worldwide . This officially places it as a Top Pop , making it an outstanding unique item for discerning collectors.
