Krugerrand GRC Proof Set 1989 4 coins gold

This is the 1989 Krugerrand GRC set in Proof/PP (Polished Plate) mint quality, consisting of 4 gold coins from 1 oz to 1/10 oz.

The set completes a beautiful wooden box. The special feature on this set is the GRC Mintmark, which proves that each coin was minted at the Gold Reef City (GRC) Mint.

The maximum mintage in 1989 was 987 copies for all coins incl. Sets. The number of sets is estimated to be less than 300.

Front of the Krugerrand coins:

The obverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features the world-famous portrait of Paul Kruger, after whom the series of Krugerrand coins was named. Paul Kruger, then President of South Africa (1883 to 1902), founded the mint from which the South African Mint emerged. On the edge of the coin was stamped the country of issue in English and Afrikaans.

The reverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features a springbok motif with a stylized South African steppe landscape in the background. Likewise, the coin’s fine weight, fineness, and precious metal are shown on the obverse of the coin.
