The face of the coin features a famous portrait of Paul Kruger, who gave his name to the Krugerrand series. Kruger was President of South Africa from 1883 to 1902 and founded the mint that later became the South African Mint. The name of the issuing country is immortalized in English and Afrikaans on the edge of the coin.

Back:

The reverse of the platinum coin presents a springbok motif against an artistically rendered backdrop of the South African savannah. Above the springbok are the engraved words “1967 – 2017 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY” as well as the name of the coin. Additionally, the coin’s weight, purity and metal used are visible on this side.
