Gabon 1960 – 50 Francs Gold Proof for Independence
This 50-franc gold coin was minted in 1960 to commemorate Gabon’s independence . The country gained its independence from France on August 17, 1960. This historic date is also inscribed on the reverse of the coin.
The front side features a portrait of Léon M’ba , the first president of the Republic of Gabon. Below the portrait is the year 1960. The inscription reads “PRESIDENT LEON MBA – REPUBLIQUE GABONAISE”.
The reverse side features the Gabonese coat of arms. Below it is the face value of 50 francs . The inscription “INDEPENDANCE 17 AOÛT 1960” commemorates Gabon’s independence day.
