In 1955, the Dominican Republic issued a commemorative gold coin in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Rafael Trujillo regime. This coin, worth 30 pesos, was intended to mark a significant era in the country’s history.
On the obverse of this coin, the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic can clearly be seen in the center. The fineness and value of the coin are displayed directly below. Around the coat of arms are the inscriptions “XXV · ANIVERSARIO · DE · LA · ERA DE · TRUJILLO”, which translates to “25. Anniversary of the Trujillo Era” means, and “DIOS PATRIA LIBERTAD”, which means “God, Homeland, Freedom”. On the bottom of the coin are the inscriptions “REPUBLICA DOMINICANA”, the name of the country, “LEY 900”, which indicates the fineness of the coin of .900, and “30 PESOS”, the value of the coin.
The reverse of the coin features a left-facing bust of Rafael Trujillo, the nation’s leader at the time. The year 1955 is stated directly below the bust. Around this bust are the words “TRVJILLO·PADRE·DE LA·PATRIA·NVEVA”, which can be translated as “Trujillo, father of the new homeland”.
This coin was issued by the Dominican Republic in 1955 with a face value of 30 pesos. The mintage was limited to just 33,000 coins. It consists of a gold composition and a fineness of .900 and weighs 29.622 grams (or 26.6g fine). The coin has a diameter of 32 mm.
