History

Alexander Sergeyevich PUSHKIN (1799 – 1837); buried in Svyatogorsky Monastery, now Pskov Oblast, was a Russian poet, dramatist, prose writer, historian, literary critic, and journalist.

Many manuscripts of Alexander Pushkin, preserved in the Pushkin House in St. Petersburg, contain images that the poet sketched in the countryside: Landscape sketches, typical types, the characters of his works, real and imaginary female figures, and, of course, self-portraits at various stages of life. The self-portrait on the coin dates from 1827-1830.
