History

Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) was a great Russian writer and an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. A.Chekhov was a Russian writer, novelist, playwright, physician and charitable activist. He wrote novels and short stories that made him famous as one of the greatest short story writers in world literature. His plays “The Cherry Orchard”, “The Seagull”, “Uncle Vanya” and “Three Sisters” have been performed for over a century.

In addition to his literary and medical work, Chekhov attached great importance to charitable activities for the benefit of the hungry, children, peasants and tuberculosis patients. He was a commissioner on the board of the Yalta Charitable Society, organized fundraising campaigns for the needy, and regularly published texts in newspapers about the situation of socially vulnerable groups in Russia.
