Pop is short for population. 📊 This means: How many of them are officially on the lists. 🗂️

A top pop coin is the coin that received the highest grade from a grading company. 🥇🔍 And their database doesn’t contain a better one of that exact type. ✅📈

Think of it like a ranking. 🏁
Many coins are starting to roll. 🪙🏃 Some are good. 👍 Some are very good. ✨ And one is in the lead. 🥇
That’s the one where everyone says, “That’s top pop.” 🏆🪙

Who gives these grades? 🧐

That’s what professionals like PCGS and NGC do. 👨‍🔬🔎
They’re looking very closely, so closely, as if they’re counting every single whorl of fur on my head. 🐶🧡

Then they assign a number, for example. 🔢
MS stands for uncirculated. 🪙✨
PF for Proof. 💎
And a grade like 69 or 70. 🏅

And now for the pop part. 📊
These companies keep lists of how many coins of a particular type and denomination they have seen and certified. 🗂️✅ This is called a population report. 📈

Important, otherwise there will be puppy confusion. 🐾😄

Top Pop almost always only applies to one company. 🏢

A coin might be Top Pop on PCGS but not on NGC. 🔁 Or vice versa. ↔️
That’s not wrong. ✅ They’re simply two different lists. 🗂️🗂️

Sometimes it also says: Top Pop, shared. 🤝
This means there are one or two other coins with the exact same highest value. 🥇🥇 So not just one champion, but a small winning team. 🏆🏆 Still rare though. ✨

Why collectors love Top Pop. ❤️🪙

Collectors love Top Pop because it’s the best. 🏔️
When you collect a series, sometimes you don’t want “just any piece,” but the best known one. 🎯 And if a coin is Top Pop, then it’s not easy to replace it in that particular denomination. 🔒
