The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Republic of Panama as well as the words “REPUBLICA DE PANAMA”, “PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO” and “FM” for Franklin Mint. The inscription also indicates the fineness and weight of the gold as well as its value of 100 balboas.

The reverse of the coin features a depiction of Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the famous explorer of the Pacific Ocean, kneeling in armor and holding a sword in one hand and a flag in the other. The reverse also features the Latin script “VASCO NUÑEZ DE BALBOA DESCUBRIDOR DEL PACIFICO” and the year 1975.
