Krugerrand 1968 – Proof – SAGCE PV 96 – One Side Frosted
This 1968 proof coin is one of the most technically and historically interesting issues of the early Krugerrand series. It was certified by the SAGCE with a point value of 96 and features the One Side Frosted (OSF) finish typical of this vintage—a transitional feature unique to 1968.
Historical context
1968 was the only year with documented mixed coinages: Of the 10,000 proof coins issued that year, 8,956 were struck with the OSF design and 1,044 with the Both Side Frosted (BSF) design. The OSF version, with its frosted Springbok side and glossy obverse, is highly sought after today, as it represents a technical transition model.
