South Africa Big Five 2022 – Lion – Series II – 1 oz Silver

You see here the 2022 silver issue with the Big Five Lion of the Series II of the famous Big Five Series of the SA Mint from South Africa.

The South African coin is produced by the South African Mint. The Big Five Lion silver coin is the second issue of the coin series “Big Five Series II”. Short digression: the “Big Five” accordingly includes the following animals: elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, lion and leopard. The Big Five Lion silver coin is strictly limited with an edition of only 15,000 pieces worldwide and for this reason very popular with collectors and coin lovers.

What is special about the Big Five coin series? The reverse of the coins was designed with two halves of an animal portrait. This creates a very special effect: two coins side by side create a full close-up portrait of one of the Big Five, and one row shows a pride of animals (in this case, that of a pride of lions).

Front:

The obverse side of this rare coin depicts a full-grown lion. Below this motif is clearly visible the country of origin “SOUTH AFRICA”, the series name “BIG FIVE” and the year of mintage “2022”.

Back:

On the reverse you will see two halves of a lion portrait on the silver coin. Amidst these portraits, the face value “FIVE RAND”, the weight “1oz” and the fineness “Ag 999” can be seen in a circle.
