In 2017, the Krugerrand celebrated its 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, in addition to the classic gold editions, a very special coin was released: the 1 oz platinum Krugerrand .
Since its introduction in 1967, the Krugerrand has been inextricably linked to gold for decades. The 2017 platinum edition therefore represents an exceptional rarity within the series.
To mark the anniversary year, the edition was limited to just 2,017 copies worldwide .
1 oz platinum with a special anniversary design
The design is closely based on the classic Krugerrand.
The front features the well-known portrait of Paul Kruger , designed by Otto Schultz. The inscription gives the country name South Africa in Afrikaans and English.
The reverse side shows the famous springbok by Coert Steynberg , one of the most well-known motifs in South African numismatics.
Additionally, the coin bears the special 50th Anniversary Privy Mark for the anniversary 1967-2017.
