The Panama 500 Balboas coin, minted in 1978 by the Franklin Mint, is a commemorative issue celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of the OAS (Organization of American States). With a mintage of only 2009, this coin is a rare and sought-after collector’s item.
The coin is made of .900 fine gold, weighs 41.7 g and measures 46 mm in diameter.
The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Republic of Panama as well as the words “REPUBLICA DE PANAMA”, “PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO” and “FM” for Franklin Mint. The lettering also indicates the fineness and weight of the gold, as well as its value of 500 balboas.
The reverse of the coin shows a map of North and South America in the inner circle, accompanied by the text “UNIDAD DE LAS AMERICAS” (UNITY OF THE AMERICAS).
