Here you see the Mexico Cinco De Mayo Centenario Medal – a medal commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the battle of May 5, 1862. This coin was minted in 1962 as a gold coin with a fineness of .900.
This edition has been certified by the PCGS and awarded a very high grade of SP67. Only one edition has ever received a higher grade from the PCGS.
This gold medal was struck on the blanks used to produce the Mexican gold 50 Peso “Centenario” coin, manufactured by the Banco de Mexico.

The front depicts the statue of General Ignacio Zaragoza on horseback, facing left, next to a cannon and cannonballs. Puebla can be seen in the distance to the left. The inscriptions read “HEROICA BATALLA DEL 5 DE MAYO DE 1862” and “CENTENARIO”. Next to the raised horse’s hoof is the word “PUEBLA”.

The reverse side features the Mexican coat of arms, which shows an eagle perched on a cactus devouring a snake.
Special feature
The design and minting were done as a gift from the Mexican government to the Queen via the Mexican ambassador, London, May 1962.
