This exceptional gold coin was minted in 1972 and is part of the first series of commemorative coins issued by Malta after the introduction of its own currency. It features the statue of the Roman sea god Neptune, a symbol of Malta’s deep connection to the sea and its maritime history.
The specimen offered here has been certified by NGC with a grade of MS68 – a sign of near-perfect minting quality and exceptional preservation. This issue is only 1 of 5 issues with this grading and to date none has been certified better, which makes this coin the top pop.
