Krugerrand – 2011 – Privy Mark 50 Years Decimal Coin Series – 1oz Gold Proof – NGC PF69 UCAM

This is the Krugerrand 1oz Gold Proof coin with the Privy Mark “50 Years of Decimal Coin Series” from 2011 in honor of the introduction of decimalization of South African coins, which occurred shortly before South Africa became a republic on May 31, 1961.

Front:

The obverse of the Krugerrand gold coin depicts the world-famous portrait of Paul Kruger, after whom the series of Krugerrand coins was named. Paul Kruger, then President of South Africa (1883 to 1902), founded the mint from which the South African Mint emerged.

On the edge of the coin was stamped the country of issue in English and Afrikaans.

Back:

The reverse of the Krugerrand gold coin features a springbok motif with a stylized South African steppe landscape in the background. The coin’s fine weight, purity, and precious metal are also depicted on the obverse.

The special Privy Mark shows the symbol of the pound and rand (£R) and the text “50 years”.
