This Ethiopian 600-birr gold coin was issued in 1970 (1978) and is a commemorative issue highlighting the importance of preservation in Ethiopia. The obverse of the coin depicts a lion within a circle, dividing a wreath surrounding symbols in the center. The inscription used on this side of the coin is in Ge’ez.
The reverse of the coin depicts a right-facing Walia ibex. The script used on this side is also in Ge’ez. This coin was minted at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Great Britain, and has a mintage of only 647 pieces.
The coin is made of 0.900 fine gold, weighs 33.437 grams and has a diameter of 34 mm. The thickness of the coin is 2.14 mm.
