El Salvador – 1971 – Colones – 150 Years of Independence – Gold and Silver Set with Certificate

The El Salvador Colones Independence Coin Set was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Central America’s independence. This set is a unique and historic piece that celebrates a significant moment in the region’s history.

Regarding the 200 Colones gold coin: The obverse of the coin features a coat of arms with a bust of José Simeón Cañas y Villacorta, a national hero of El Salvador. The inscription around the image reads “REPÚBLICA DE EL SALVADOR AMÉRICA CENTRAL” or “Republic of El Salvador Central America.” The date “1971” is located on the underside of the coin.

The reverse depicts a colonial church with the inscription “150° ANIVERSARIO DE LA INDEPENDENCIA DE CENTRO AMÉRICA” or “150th Anniversary of the Independence of Central America”. The coin’s value of 200 colones and the dates “1821” and “1971” are found below, along with the name of the church depicted on the coin, “IGLESIA COLONIAL DE PANCHIMALCO”.

The El Salvador 200 Colones Independence Coin was minted by the Casa de Moneda de México and bears the mint number #1812. It was issued by El Salvador in 1971 with a face value of 200 Colones. The coin is made of .900 fine gold and weighs 23.6 grams with a diameter of 38 mm.
