This is a Burundi 100 franc coin minted in 1962 to commemorate Burundi’s independence. The obverse of the coin shows the image of Mwambutsa IV, the then Mwami (king) of Burundi. The lettering on the coin reads “Mwambutsa IV Mwami du Burundi”, which translates as “Mwambutsa IV King of Burundi”.
The reverse of the coin shows the image of the emblem of the Kingdom of Burundi with the words “ROYAUME DU BURUNDI INDEPENDENCE 1962 100 FRANCS” around the edge. The translation of this is “Kingdom of Burundi Independence 1962 100 Francs.” The value of the coin is also indicated on the reverse as 100 francs.
This commemorative coin is made of gold with a composition of .900 and weighs 32 grams with a diameter of 35 mm. The design of the coin represents the rich history and culture of Burundi and makes it a great object for collectors and history buffs.
