The four gold coins in chronological order

South Africa 1997 – 2 Rand “Early Man” – NGC PF68 Ultra Cameo

The oldest coin in the package is also the most unusual. The 2-rand gold coin commemorates the discovery of the skull known as “Mrs. Ples” in Sterkfontein. The year 1997 marked the 50th anniversary of this discovery.

The mintage was limited to only 1,000 pieces. The coin is made of 999.9/1000 fine gold and contains 1/4 oz of pure gold. NGC graded the offered specimen PF68 Ultra Cameo.

South Africa 2006 – Krugerrand 1/4 oz Gold Proof – NGC PF68 Ultra Cameo

The 2006 Krugerrand features the classic combination of Paul Kruger’s portrait and Coert L. Steynberg’s springbok. The proof finish creates a striking contrast between the reflective surfaces and the matte relief.

The coin contains 1/4 oz of fine gold and has been certified by NGC with PF68 Ultra Cameo.

South Africa 2012 – Krugerrand 1/4 oz Gold Proof – NGC PF69 Ultra Cameo

Six years later, the 2012 Krugerrand followed. This specimen achieved the grade PF69 Ultra Cameo at NGC and also bears the designation “One of First 300 Struck”.

The NGC label thus documents that the coin is among the first 300 minted specimens of this year.

The package concludes with the highest-rated Krugerrand. NGC certified the coin with PF70 Ultra Cameo. It is listed as a Top Pop and also bears the designation “One of First 300 Struck”.
