Information:
The State Russian Museum (until 1917 the Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III) was opened on March 7 (19), 1898 in the Mikhailovsky Palace. Today, the architectural complex of the museum consists of remarkable monuments of Russian architecture of the 18. and 19th century: the Mikhailovsky Palace (architect K. Rossi), the Stroganov Palace (architect B. Rastrelli), the Marble Palace (architect A. Rinaldi), the Engineering Castle (architects VIBazhenov, V.Brenna). The museum is of global importance. It possesses the largest and most complete collection of works of Russian fine art, which includes about 400,000 exhibits and covers all historical periods and directions representing the development of Russian art within 1000 years, from the 10th to the 20th century.
