The Golden Gate in Vladimir is a unique monument of Old Russian architecture. It was built in 1158–1164 during the reign of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky and is the most important bastion of the western section of the fortification belt around Vladimir and at the same time the main entrance to the city, a kind of triumphal arch.
