This gold coin from Oman was issued in 1976 (AH 1397) and belongs to the renowned Conservation Series, which combined international conservation themes with high-quality collector coins in the 1970s. The design depicts the Arabian Tahr, a rare wild goat species native to the eastern Arabian Peninsula, primarily associated with the mountainous regions of Oman.

This issue is part of the WWF-affiliated Conservation Series, combining a regionally significant animal motif with a classic numismatic gold coin. The obverse features the national coat of arms of Oman with the year AH 1397 and a reference to Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’id. The reverse depicts the Arabian Tahr with its Arabic denomination of 75 Omani Rials.

Of particular interest to collectors is the very limited proof mintage of only 325 pieces. This makes this issue one of the rarer gold coins in the Conservation Series. The combination of Oman, Arabian Tahr, high gold content, proof finish, and international conservation theme makes this coin especially appealing to specialized collectors of modern numismatic gold coins.

This specimen has been certified by NGC with PF69 Ultra Cameo. This means the coin is in exceptionally high condition, with a strong contrast between the mirrored fields and the frosted design elements. This grade is particularly attractive to collectors of high-quality certified proof gold coins, as it is close to theoretical perfection and simultaneously showcases the unique aesthetic of the ultra-cameo minting.

Weighing 33.437 g, with a fineness of 900/1000 gold and a fine weight of 0.9675 oz gold, the coin is close to a classic 1-ounce gold coin. However, its value derives not only from the precious metal, but primarily from the limited mintage, the rare design, the proof condition, and its inclusion in the Conservation Series.

This specimen is certified by NGC as a PF69 Ultra Cameo under certificate number 5745377-007.
