This 1997 Krugerrand was issued to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Krugerrand series and is therefore one of the sought-after modern special editions from the South African Mint. Its distinguishing feature is the small anniversary mintmark “30” on the reverse, located to the right above the year, which was used exclusively on this anniversary issue.

The coin was struck in proof quality , which makes the typical contrast between mirrored fields and frosted reliefs particularly striking. The obverse features Paul Kruger with the inscription SUID-AFRIKA – SOUTH AFRICA , while the reverse displays the classic springbok motif with the legend FYNGOUD 1 OZ FINE GOLD .
