The 2015 Isle of Man Angel coin, made of 1 oz gold, is one of the most exceptional modern releases in the long-established Angel series. Minted by the Pobjoy Mint in pure gold, the coin features a rare incuse design , where key design elements are deeply engraved into the coin’s surface.

The mintage of this special gold edition is limited to only 500 pieces . The offered example has been graded PF70 (perfect condition) by the Numismatic Guaranty Company.

Rare Incuse Design

In incuse minting, the design lies wholly or partially beneath the surrounding coin surface. This sophisticated manufacturing process creates a significantly different three-dimensional effect than conventional relief minting.

On the portrait side, Queen Elizabeth II appears as a recessed motif. This makes the surrounding area visually stand out from the indented portrait. The unusual design makes the 2015 Gold Angel instantly recognizable within the long-running series.

Archangel Michael fighting the dragon

The angel side depicts the Archangel Michael with wings, halo, shield, and spear. At his feet writhes the defeated dragon. The motif traditionally symbolizes the victory of good over evil, as well as protection and strength.

Below the design are the inscriptions “Au .9999”, “1 OUNCE” and “ANGEL”. The reverse side bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the country name “ISLE OF MAN” and the year of issue 2015.

The modern Isle of Man Angel series revives a coin motif whose historical roots reach back to late medieval England. The combination of this time-honored theme with a modern incuse design gives the 2015 issue a distinctive numismatic character.

Only 500 pieces made from one troy ounce of gold

The coin is made of 999.9 fine gold and contains exactly one troy ounce of gold. With a mintage of only 500 pieces, it is significantly rarer than many modern gold issues of comparable size.
