History

Peter and Paul Church in Kozhevniki (1406), is richly decorated and unplastered, so you can see how the old Russian churches looked centuries ago.

Veliky Novgorod is one of the oldest cities in Russia. The official date for the foundation of Novgorod is assumed to be 859. Tourists come to experience the rich history of the region. In the guidebooks about Veliky Novgorod it is called the city of churches. Since the founding of St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod has been in its shadow, but even earlier the city gained great fame as a trading city throughout Russia and beyond.
