In the center of the coin – the emblem of the Bank of Russia, in the lower part – metal designation, alloy grade, mint mark and purity of the precious metal. On the circle there are inscriptions flanked by a circle of dots: above – “50 rubles 1995”, below – “Bank of Russia”.

In the middle there is a picture of a lynx head, on the top right – a capercaillie sitting on a branch, on the bottom – a fir branch, on the top of the circle – the inscription: “Save our world”.

History

The lynx is a mammal from the cat family. The range of this beautiful mammal is quite large: Eurasia, the North American continent and Kamchatka. The lynx used to be native to a larger area, but the value of its fur led to its extinction in many European countries.

Today the lynx is listed in the Red Book. The animal looks like a very large cat about one meter long (females slightly smaller) with a stubby tail of about 20-25 cm. Males weigh up to 25 kg, females up to about 18 kg. Occasionally quite large specimens are found, which can weigh up to 30 kg.

The lynx is an animal of the taiga and the forest; there it can fully live out its hunting instinct. The Eurasian lynx can survive temperatures as low as -55 degrees Celsius.
