South Africa Big Five 2019 – Elephant – Series I – 1 oz Platinum – NGC PF70 UCAM

Here you see the 2019 Platinum edition with the elephant from Series I of the famous Big Five series by the SA Mint from South Africa.

The South African coin is produced by the South African Mint. The Big Five Elephant Platinum Coin is the first issue in the “Big Five” coin series. Short digression: the “Big Five” includes the following animals: elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, lion and leopard. The Big Five Elephant platinum coin is strictly limited to a mintage of only 550 pieces worldwide and is therefore very popular with collectors and coin enthusiasts.

What is special about the Big Five coin series? The reverse of the coins was designed with two halves of an animal portrait. This creates a very special effect: Two coins placed side by side make up a complete close-up portrait of one of the Big Five, and a row shows a pack/herd of animals (here, a herd of elephants).

Front:

The front of this rare coin depicts an elephant. Below this motif, the country of origin “SOUTH AFRICA”, the series name “BIG FIVE” and the year of minting “2019” are clearly visible.

Back:

On the reverse side you can see two halves of an elephant portrait on the gold coin. In the middle of these portraits, the nominal value “TWENTY RAND”, the weight “1oz” and the fineness “Pt 999.5” can be seen in a circle.
