You see here the 2019 issue with the Series I elephant of the famous Big Five series of the SA Mint from South Africa.

The South African coin is produced by the South African Mint. The Big Five Elephant Gold Coin is the first issue in the “Big Five” coin series. A brief digression: the “Big Five” includes the following animals: elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard. The Big Five Elephant gold coin is strictly limited with an edition of only 500 pieces worldwide and for this reason very popular with collectors and coin lovers.

What is special about the Big Five coin series? The reverse of the coins was designed with two halves of an animal portrait. This creates a very special effect: two coins side by side create a full close-up portrait of one of the Big Five, and one row shows a pack/herd of animals (here, that of a herd of elephants).

Front:

The obverse side of this rare coin shows an elephant. Below this motif, the country of origin “SOUTH AFRICA”, the series name “BIG FIVE” and the year of minting “2019” are clearly visible.

Back:

On the reverse side you can see two halves of an elephant portrait on the gold coin. In the middle of these portraits, the nominal value “FIFTY RAND”, the weight “1oz” and the fineness “Au 999.9” can be seen in a circle.
