Africa and Central America Gold Investment Package:

This package is not a matching coin set. It combines four certified gold coins from the years 1961 to 1978, each with a very different story: the short-lived Republic of Katanga, the independence of Burundi and Cape Verde, and Panama’s national flower, the dove orchid.

All four coins are made of 900/1000 fine gold. Together they contain approximately 33.74 g of pure gold. Two coins are certified by PCGS and two by NGC. The package includes three proof coins with cameo contrast and one uncirculated gold coin in PCGS MS65.

The four gold coins in chronological order

1961 – Katanga – 5 Francs – PCGS MS65

Katanga declared its independence in 1960 and existed as an independent state only until 1963. The 5-franc gold coin from 1961 therefore comes from a very short historical period.

The obverse depicts a banana plant, the reverse the traditional Katanga cross with the face value and year. The coin was graded MS65 by PCGS. With a fineness of 900/1000, the coin contains approximately 12.00 g of pure gold. The mintage was 20,000 pieces.

1962 – Burundi – 25 Francs Independence – NGC PF68 Cameo

Burundi gained independence on July 1, 1962. The gold coin issued to commemorate this occasion depicts King Mwambutsa IV on the obverse. The reverse features the national coat of arms, the face value, and an inscription celebrating independence.

NGC graded the coin PF68 Cameo. It has a fineness of 900/1000 and contains approximately 7.20 g of pure gold. Its mintage was 15,000 pieces.

1976 – Cape Verde – 2500 Escudos – PCGS PR66 CAM

This 2500-escudo gold coin was issued to commemorate the first anniversary of Cape Verde’s independence. Only 3,409 pieces were minted.

The offered piece has been certified by PCGS with PR66 CAM. The Cameo classification describes the visible contrast between the reflective fields and the frosted design areas. The coin is made of 900/1000 fine gold and contains approximately 7.20 g of pure gold.

1978 – Panama – 100 Balboas Pigeon Orchid – NGC PF69 Ultra Cameo

The collection concludes with the 100-Balboas gold coin from Panama. Its design features the dove orchid, botanically Peristeria elata, the country’s national flower. The coin was minted by the Franklin Mint.

6,086 of these coins were minted. NGC graded the offered piece PF69 Ultra Cameo. With a fineness of 900/1000, the fine weight is approximately 7.34 g.
