Front:
In the centre of the coin is the emblem of the Bank of Russia (a double-headed eagle with downward-facing wings) within a circle of dots. Below it on the left are details of the precious metal and its fineness, in the centre is the mint mark, and on the right is the fineness of the metal. Around the edge are semicircular inscriptions separated by two double diamonds. At the top are the face value and the year of issue: “3 РУБЛЯ 1992” (3 RUBLES 1992), below: “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA).

Back:
In the center of the coin is a relief image of the Trinity Cathedral of the Alexandro-Nevsky Lavra in Saint Petersburg. Above it is the symbol of the Order of Alexander Nevsky, and below the cathedral is the inscription: “SAINT PETERSBURG” (SAINT PETERSBURG).
