History

Mikhail Uryevich Lermontov (1814-1841) was a Russian writer. He was known as a prose writer, poet and playwright. In addition to his literary works, the writer was also engaged in the fine arts and was a talented painter. The young man’s genius was beyond doubt. But like many great personalities, he was obnoxious. He possessed a sharp, profound mind and wasted it in vain. At least so said his contemporaries. It was clear to everyone that the poet’s intemperance would one day end badly. It could not be otherwise: it was the 19th century, when honor cost more than life and the defense of a tarnished reputation did not come without blood and death. The matter was not limited to malicious irony and wit; Lermontov had a very ambivalent character, treated people around him disparagingly. The biography of the brilliant poet and writer came to a bad end when he was only 26 years old. Despite the complexity of his character, Mikhail Lermontov left an extensive literary legacy. It became a classic that is still fondly remembered two centuries later, especially in Russia.
