This 2002 edition was certified by PCGS with the highest grading PR70 Deep Cameo (DCAM), making it the only one currently available from PCGS.

In the center, the emblem of the Bank of Russia (double-headed eagle with lowered wings, below the semicircular inscription “Bank of Russia”), framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the circle: above – “Fifty Rubles”. Below you can see 2002, on the left – information about the metal and its fineness, on the right – the fineness of the precious metal and the mark of the St. Petersburg Mint (SPMD).

On the oval a half portrait of Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov in full uniform; below flags, an anchor. At the top you can see the inscription: “Admiral P. Nakhimov”, at the bottom the dates “1802” “1855”.

History

Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov (1802 – 1855) was a famous Russian admiral. During the Crimean War of 1853-1856, Nakhimov, as commander of a squadron of the Black Sea Fleet, discovered and blocked the main forces of the Turkish fleet at Sinop and defeated them at the Battle of Sinop. Nakhimov was mortally wounded in the head on June 28, 1855, and died on June 30, 1855; he was buried in St. Vladimir’s Cathedral in Sevastopol.
